Three Men on a Boat 
Reports coming out of Nigeria say that more than 100 people were killed in bomb attacks and gunfights in Nigeria’s second largest city Kano late on Friday.
The Islamist sect Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for the deadly attacks stating it was in retaliation for police arrests and killings of members of the sect.
The police report that eight buildings were attacked, including police headquarters, three police stations, the headquarters of the secret services and the immigration head office. Residents say that fighting between police and gunmen went on into the night.
It appears that the prediction we made here, about Nigeria fast headed towards a civil war may becoming a reality.
In the past few years Nigeria was becoming the star of the continent with a positive economic outlook and stabilizing political environment.
People like former President Olusegun Obasanjo who was wise in knowing when to step down when his time was up, had lead the way for Nigerian revival. Others like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala the Minister of Finance and Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Central Bank Govenor are being exemplary by trying to put the country’s development first.
The sad events happening in Nigeria come during a period when we are witnessing a change in the thinking of Africans and a new found respect of democracy and the rule of law. We thought that Nigerians together with Ghanaians were now taking the lead in the revival of new African consciousness that was characteristic of Africa in the 1950s.
If there was ever a time people in Nigeria must stopped hustling and bustling over the economics of oil, this is probably the time.
