COULD HE QUIT? Raza off to Bangladesh where he will think about his future

Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza is off to participate in the Dhaka Premier League and will use the time to think about his future following the heartbreak in the just-ended ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 where his team failed to qualify for the main tournament next year.

Sikandar Raza

Speaking to Mohammad Isam of ESPNcricinfo Raza said he and his fellow national players faced an uncertain future after failing to make it to England in 2019.

The reality of the matter is that we don’t know what the future holds for us. We don’t know who is going to be in that changing room again. A lot of things might change, but we don’t know anything.

He also added that the Dhaka gig meant he would have an opportunity to think about his future without emotion saying the time would give him opportunity to think of things better.

While the next cricket is coming up in July 2019, Raza was unable to commit to the national saying there was a lot that needed to be talked about:

I think we have to sit with our board to see what they tell us. I think our decision will basically rely on a lot of variables. I can’t tell you the answer now because there’s a lot of emotion going around. I don’t want to make a decision based on emotions. I will also consult my family to determine what I have to do in the future. This DPL gig couldn’t have come at a better time. Hopefully with a bit more cricket and a better atmosphere, I will be able to see things better.

After winning the player of the tournament gong on Sunday, Raza said the win was a painful reminder not just of his country’s failure to qualify for the World Cup but that of the other teams who failed to make it too. (Click here to watch his speech)
