Raza, Muzarabani help nervy Zimbabwe over the line against Afghanistan

Zimbabwe have had a torrid time against Afghanistan of late but they won the one that mattered when they beat them by 2 runs in an ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier match at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

Having won the toss, Zimbabwe chose to bat soon lost the wicket of Cephas Zhuwao with the score on two.

Solomon Mire walked next the first of Mujeeb Rahman’s three victims. Hamilton Masakadza would be the next, his 3 coming off 20 balls.

Enter Brendan Taylor and he accelerated the score bludgeoning batsmen . Craig Ervine stuck around for 17 but it was Taylor’s partnership Sikandar Raza that pushed Zimbabwe north of 150.

Taylor would fall on 89, bowled by Dalwat Zadran having scored at a run a ball.

Rashid Khan who was bleeding runs then then took the wicket of Raza for 60  and with Graeme Cremer the only recognisable batsman following the departure of Malcolm Waller Zimbabwe capitulated  for 196 after 43 overs.

Mujeeb ended on 3-49 and Rasid 3-38.

Ihsanullah was the first to call, Brian Vitori trapping him leg before for 1.

At 58-3 Zimbabwe looked to be making a fist fight of it but Rahmat Shah(69) and Mohammad Nabi (51) put a 98 run partnership together.

Muzarabani trapped Shah before Sikandar Raza picked up three wickets in one over. The former made it 177-9 removing Mujeeb on 41.1 overs.

Dalwat Zadran  and Shapoor Zadran dug in from the 42nd over. It got close, a nation waited.

Vitori got Shapoor to nick it and Taylor gathered.

Zimbabwe won by 2 runs with three balls to spare.
