Chombo backs Zodwa Wabantu ban

After all the toing and froing plus the weird bits that came with it Zimbabwe’s home affairs minister Ignatius Chombo has backed a ban on South African dancer Zodwa Wabantu performing at the Harare International Carnival.

This came after the Censorship Board finally came up with a decision to institute a ban on the sensation.

With 7,500 comments having complained on the Facebook post of South African actress Anne Nhira celebrating a coup of sorts in having her barred from performing in Zimbabwe, it is an interesting move.

While one will of course say that Zodwa who had been hired by Private Lounge to perform next week ha slost income we think, someone who as seen in the pic above performed at the inaugural Mzansi Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards beamed across the continent this past Saturday not part of the highlights for the street event.

You would have thought common sense would prevail at some point but we aren’t really known for that in Zimbabwe at bureaucratic level.

Oh, Private Lounge will probably not go ahead with the show now in case you are wondering as two ministers banning her would just be messy.

As for what Zodwa thinks of the whole issue:

Oh well… Poor Zimbabwe Tourism Authority boss Karikoga Kaseke. After almost sobbing on TV asking for forgiveness from Zodwa.
