Screw an apple day.
A piece of a chocolate taken daily can be good for your brain, protecting it from cognitive decline, according to a new review from the University of L’Aquila in Italy.
As if we needed any more reasons to dig into some awesome cocoa, researchers say it has some incredibly awesome the kind of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious type. Yeah we used that word. *fist bump*
Some of the benefits are improved attention, processing speed, working memory and verbal fluency.
Review authors Valentina Socci and Michele Ferrara:
Regular intake of cocoa and chocolate could indeed provide beneficial effects on cognitive functioning over time
Not only that. A quick chocolate snack can improve one very quickly even though the effects are more subtle.
The effect is from what they call cocoa flavanols and dark chocolate packs more of them than others. Sure they are also found in apples, pears, grapes to name a few but…
If you were asked, apples or chocolate, what would you pick?
