Iconic James Bond actor Roger Moore dies

Iconic James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore has died.

The new was revealed in a statement on his official Twitter account which said he had died in Switzerland after a short battle with cancer.

With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated

He was 89.

Moore was the longest-serving James Bond actor, having spent 12 years in the role (from his debut in 1973, to his retirement from the role in 1985), having made seven of the Eon Production Bond films in a row. Moore is the oldest actor to have played Bond – he was 45 in Live and Let Die (1973), and 58 when he announced his retirement on 3 December 1985.

Zimbabwe’s Kubi Indi (nee Chaza) appeared opposite Moore in Live and Let Die.

He was also famous for his role as the lead Simon Templar on the long running TV series The Saint.
