The National Blood Services Zimbabwe (NBSZ) is sitting on only two weeks supply of blood for transfusions over the holiday.
The revelation was made as the call for more donors as demands tend to go up due to the high rate of accidents during public holidays.
NBSZ CEO, Ms Lucy Marowa was quoted by the public broadcaster ZBC:
Voluntary blood donors come from all walks of life but they have one thing in common. They put others before themselves, most of the time, people they don’t even know
Apparently school children rank highest as donors while we have seen organisations such as the Rotarians engage in blood drives.
While injuries due to accidents dropped last year, there are still concerns and police have mounted roadblocks especially on the main highways to clamp down on unroadworthy vehicles.
