QUICK SONG REVIEW: Shiddoh Brown ft Fungai Nengare – Ndiwe

When Shiddoh Brown scored a hit with Inoita, many expected it to be a turning point for the rapper. It was meant to mark the start of a good run.

But ,now can we safely say that his recent material is quite a testimony to that notion? Well, let’s examine his latest collab with Fungai Nengare, Ndiwe, shall we?

The song is a mid-tempo afrobeat with a spanking acoustic layerings, raucous rattles and well-crafted drum patterns. Conceptually, it’s a tale of a father who is on a  moribund  passing on of words of wisdom to his children. The lyrics are meaningful and deep in moments and plain sometimes.S o if the accompaniment and the content is great, where does the track fall short of thrill?

Delivery. Shiddoh Brown’s lack of emotional intimacy in his voice failed to carry this song to it’s full potential with incoherent rapping. This brought what should have been a great track to a bad place. Our conclusion is that perhaps he’s not accustomed to afrobeats and songs that require emotional investment. As of Fungai, although he played his part by the rules, his contribution is somehow mediocre. We believe he could have redeem the song with his daring almighty vocals. The collabo does feel a bit rushed.

All in all, the song is generally underwhelming. The good news is that it feels underwhelming in the sense that these guys could do better. In other words their their next project is definitely one to look out for.
