The 50 seat Bombarder CRJ100 aircraft which will be operated by the new commercial airline Rainbow Airlines has landed at Harare International Airport.
It will start by servicing the Harare-Johannesburg and Harare-Victoria Falls route. It is also earmarking the Harare-Cape Town route; with a second CRJ100 plane to be added in the next four months to deal with increased routes and frequency.
A partnership between CemAir, a South African company which leases planes to other airlines across Africa and the Middle East has been established.
Local finance and investment advisory firm GMRI Capital, structured the equity and capital injection deal. This has seen an investment running beyond $1m and a 70% sale of equity to an institutional investor. The other 30% is held by a medical doctor in Harare.
Rainbow Airlines CEO Ed Berry sees prospects for Rainbow Airlines servicing the Nairobi, Lumbubashi, Durban, Beira and Maputo routes from Harare as well as a Bulawayo-Johannesburg one.
Domestically it is looking reaching places such as Kariba, Bulawayo, Mutare Hwange, Masvingo, Buffalo Range and Beitbridge.
