AUDIO: Winning the MAMA was emotional – Jah Prayzah

MTV Africa Music Award Listeners’ Choice winner Jah Prayzah had a quick chat with us last week on his claiming the gong.

Of when he won the award:

Mdhara ndiripastage manager akauya akati tahwina ndikaiti ‘Iwe usaite mafunnies, mira ndimboshanda’ (I was on stage performing and my manager came and told me we had won the award and I told him to quit joking and let me get back to work).

On what it meant:

I think zvinhu zvinotora a lot of hard work. Zviri-emotional kuti finally wazorekognaizwa kunze uko. Ndosaka uchizoona vamwe vachibuditsa musodzi. (I think it takes hard work to win it. It’s emotional being finally recognised out there. That’s why some end up crying.)

On being voted for by Africa

Zvikureva kuti takuteverwa kunzi… Vakuziva music yedu. market yese ndo yandainamatira kuti timbobata. (It means people follow us out there… they now know our music. I have been praying for that African market.
