Ammara Brown stakes claim for greatness with super Shoko Festival performance

When the programme came out and Saturday saw Ammara Brown as the final show after Jah Prayzah a few eyebrows were raised.

In fact a lot of eyebrows were raised.

Would the pint sized Mukoko star be able to handle a performance after the man of the moment? How would the crowd respond? Would she step up to it? Could she own it? Was she ready?

The last time Ammara was at Shoko Festival, Jah had featured on her set to do their smash hit Kure Kure.

Three years later, both have seen their stock rise but still the questions would have been asked.

And she brought it. Ammara stepped out onto the stage and showed why fans have been gushing over her. A lot of her material was new, so for periods the crowd swayed, glued to the stage, taking it all in. Then there was that a capella. Oh that powerful union of voices, dripping with soul and passion, emotionally fired up, a brief peak into the dance we can have music inside us. We loved it.

By the time she called her sister Chengeto to collaborate on their new single What You Want the audience was well in the mood, mesmerised by her highly energetic performance, picture perfect choreography and musically expressive set.

By the time Mukoko came on, the deal had already been sealed between Ammara and her fans. Mawere Kongonya closed it all off and we were sure of one thing. Ammara had it, has it and if she continues on the same path, she can take it all.

With murmurs about vacancies in the Big 5 at the moment, could Ammara Brown become the first female artist to join of that elite club?

A good part of that crowd seems to think so.

Shoko Festival scored big with this one.
