Zimbabwe Cricket has advertised the position of Head Coach of its men’s national cricket team.
Bowling coach Makhaya Ntini has been acting coach since the removal of Dave Whatmore on the eve of recent India tour. Ntini also coached Zimbabwe in their 2-0 test loss to New Zealand.
Ntini has expressed interest in taking the role permanently and will probably throw his hat in the ring. It remains to be seen if he qualifies as ZC is looking for a person with ‘an impeccable record of coaching at first-class and international level’. Given his international experience is only with Zimbabwe it might be a big ask.
The job has been something of a revolving door with coaches being appointed and removed regularly over the last couple of years.
The new coach will have a monumental task on his hands with the Chevrons falling further behind in their quest for an automatic qualification spot for the next ODI world cup. This is one of the critical areas according to the advert:
To present a coaching plan which shows strategies to achieve qualification for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup and ICC World Twenty20 and for the national team to be competitive in the Test version of the game and ensure the highest level of performance is achieved and maintained.
