Afghanistan knock sorry Zimbabwe out of World T20

Afghanistan continued their dominance over Zimbabwe with a crushing 59-run victory in a World Twenty20 qualifying match at Naigpur on Saturday.

Afghaistan’s tormentor-in-chief  Mohammed Shahzad made the most of some ordinary bowling early on particularly from Tendai Chatara who got dispatched for 17 runs in the second over.

Tinashe Panyangara pulled the game back a bit as he grabbed 3 quick wickets to leave the war-torn associate side reeling at 60-4.

On a pitch that had very little for the batsmen Zimbabwe were sloppy in the field and pretty ordinary (and we’re being kind here)  with the bowling as they allowed a 98 run partnership between Nabi amd Sami to set a mammoth score of 186-6 on a 140 par score surface.

Zimbabwe never got started and lost wickets regularly with no batsman troubling the scorers too much. With 3 run-outs, it was pretty poor performance with all of them down to lackadaisical running between the wickets.

To show how pathetic Zimbabwe’s batsmen were, bowler Tinashe Panyangara top-scored with 17 runs.

Zimbabwe are out of the tournament after losing to Afghanistan for the fifth match in a row in this format of the match.

Lots of work to do.

Afghanistan has two things that Zimbabwe did not have. Desire and discipline. They are not a special side but they do things right. The Chevrons on the other hand…
