Shoko Festival Announces Hub Unconference & Awards

Shoko Festival has announced the Hub Unconference and Awards.

Welcoming over 200 young creatives last year, featuring speakers from Around Africa, Europe and South America and rewarding winners of the Hub Awards with cash prizes and support, this year they feature:

  • BONIFACE MWANGI (PAWA254 – KEN),
  • LUKE BAINBRIDGE (GUARDIAN – UK),
  • SAMORA CHAPMAN (MAHALA – SA)
  • and more to be announced

And then  the Hub Awards and this is how they work

  • There will be 4 awards made at the Hub Unconference at Shoko Festival 2015 in the listed categories – deadline for submissions 12 September (nominees will then be required to present at the event).
  • Another 3 separate awards will be worked on DURING the event by groups in attendance – all award winners will be announced after presentations. This will take place on Friday the 25th September at the Hub Unconference (Harare City Library).

The closing date of the application for the following categories is 12 September and must include a detailed concept of the idea to be presented emailed to [email protected].

The 4 categories for the lead up Shoko Awards:

★ Best Use Of Animation, Photography & Video Engaging Citizens for Positive Social Impact

★ Best Online Platform Addressing Environmental Issues & Climate Change

★ Speak up: Best Online Platform Seeking Truth And Demanding Accountability from Decision Makers

★ Most Innovative Use Of New Media To Promote & Protect Human Rights Including Access to Health, Education, Gender Rights and Basic Necessities

Each contestant can submit a maximum of two entries to different categories.

The contest is open to anyone under 40 years of age.

All applicants are required to declare who is the owner of the idea and failure to disclose ownership may lead to disqualification. In case the innovation has been undertaken in collaboration with others, the names and contacts of the other collaborators need to be specified.

The decision of the Shoko Hub Awards selection panel shall be final

Any monetary awards received will be strictly applied for purposes of furthering the innovation

• To avoid conflict of interest, Shoko Hub Awards selection panel members, technical validation experts, members of the sponsoring institutions and their family members shall not be eligible to submit an entry
