Harare Evicts Vendors From CBD

After numerous postponements and the sort, Harare has moved to get rid of vendors in the CBD.

We are not sure if this is a direct response to Zimbabwe’s new Minister of Local  Government Saviour Kasukuwere threatening the councils to take action or face a clear-out themselves.

Kasukuwere who was handed the new portfolio on Monday made an unequivocal statement of intent on his first day in office saying it would no longer be ‘business as usual’. Not sure what he is saying about new Minister of Home Affairs Ignatius Chombo.

At the time of this article, places around Speke Avenue had been cleared as municipal police engaged in a blitz. Vendors are not leaving without resistance though with some we talked to near Holiday Inn on Samora Machel Avenue saying they had absolutely no intention of moving.

We will see what will happen this and check back to find out more on this story.
