Of Prof Jonathan Moyo And Tito Mboweni’s Twar

We have watched with something only slightly passable as curiosity as former South African Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni and current Zimbabwe minister of information, media and broadcasting services Prof Jonathan Moyo have gone at each other on Twitter.

Prof Moyo is no nice guy on Twitter as we have said before and never one to back down from a challenge.

Mboweni’s history of tweets on the other hand have been more mild and at times, well not really worth quoting.

Both men are of considerable intelligence and in their own right command different types of followings.

Liberals and intellects (not necessarily intellectual) from Zimbabwe on Twitter have been quick to jump on the Mboweni show almost trying to dodge the dig made at Zimbabweans on Moyo’s  speak on their behalf. Kinda silly because by virtue of his appointment he is the official voice of Zimbabwe when it comes to his portfolio.

Anyway when we look at it, we are like, meh, really.

Both men have a right to say whatever they want to each other and if they want to throw each under buses it is immaterial. It is the cheering masses and critics that we find a bit weird with some suggesting that Prof Moyo should ‘handle himself better’. It’s Twitter really, not church. We cry for there to be no sacred cows and when we get rid of them suddenly we want them back.

To be able to understand the context of the jousting, we probably need to look into the background of the story. Find that and then you will probably end up with all us making a bigger deal out of it than it is.

Meanwhile, citizens of both countries need help on urgent matters.

Now… back to ignoring that story.
