Zimbabwean reporters have walked out of a press conference called by Steward Bank.

This is after the bank’s legal representative refused to apologise for raiding online business news site The Source on Thursday.

Footage we have seen show journalists confronting Nyambirai and demanding that apology before the presser could go ahead. Nyambirai is heard saying that the bank was well within its rights to conduct the raid as the documents were allegedly stolen. Journos were not having any of it.

They felt that the raid was an infringement on freedom of the press.

They then walked out chanting STOP IT (no prizes for guessing who inspired that.

Earlier, when the MC asked journos to pray before the meeting, they were not having any of that either. They asked if the bank had prayed before the raid.

The raid has been roundly condemned with information minister Professor Jonathan Moyo weighing in heavily on the debate to the extent of equating the actions to that of the ‘gestapo’.

This is a pretty hectic and the fall-out is continuing. Click here to see what we had to say on the matter yesterday.

Steward Bank is owned by Econet Zimbabwe.
