So… Tocky Refused To Perform Because The Crowd Was ‘Too Small’

Zimbabwean dancehall rising star Tocky Vibes is getting a lot of bad lip at the moment.

The Mhai star apparently refused to perform as an opening act for Oliver Mtukudzi this weekend because the crowd was too small at the time he was billed to perform.

The Zimbabwe Mail which has something of a crush on him at the minute – they broke the story last week where he is accused of having not only engaged in acts of sexual congress with a minor but left her with a seed he has no interest in taking care of – say this happened at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex on the weekend.

Tocky’s manager says he and his band of merrimen left when the time for their show had elapsed for another show in Mutare.

Tocky is said to have refunded the show organisers.

Two sides to this. Tocky, you don’t say you didn’t perform because the crowd was too small. The crowd that was there paid money to come and watch him and it is disrespectful to deny them a show because they came on time. If there were two people there, you should have performed for them because they were there for the show. Your calibre, Mr Tocky means diddly-squat. It is immaterial to the argument you need to stop thinking this is the way we do things. Bigger artists have performed for small crowds and built fans because of that.

On the other hand, the left one, Tocky is not wrong for leaving when his time for performance had elapsed. He was hired for a specific time and to expect him to just sit and wait for the organisers to get their mess in order. He sells time and that is his main business and it should be protected.

That he had another show on the same night elsewhere should never be seen as double-booking. From reports, he was there for the show in Chitungwiza and then left for the other show in Mutare.
