WTF: CAF Allocates THREE Afcons In A Row To West Africa

The Confederation of African Football has taken a shocking decision to award three consecutive editions of its showpiece event the Africa Cup of Nations to West Africa.

We caught feelings when we realised that the 2019, 2021 and 2023 hosts were Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Guinea.  What makes it weird too is that 2023 was not supposed to be announced which means there really wasn’t any bidding, open to everyone, was there?

Guinea were awarded for their presentation “and commitment”, so the committee “decided to exercise its power to make an immediate decision”, according to the BBC. Essentially, a unilateral declaration when the game worldwide is screaming for accountability.

We think that is a it is a bit rubbish to make decisions like that because you are all teared up. It s absolutely ridiculous and makes a m0ckery of a process that already stinks up the place.

Zambian sports minister Chishimba Kambwili sounds as if he is as pissed as we are. He is quoted by the Zambian Watchdog as saying it would have been better for Zambia to have withdrawn from CAF than suffer such humiliation after a bid process. Zambia lost out to Cameroon for the 2019 slot.

Surely this deserves a look and we mean a proper stare. We need answers. Just because you have powers it doesn’t mean you should use them without expecting to be questioned. Even a president making decisions by decree in a time of emergency must still answer for his actions. For a competition that happens nine years from now, there was no emergency, so to ‘exercise power’ – sh!t speak for we do what we like because some piece of paper lets us do so –  is just an insult, proper middle finger to a continent craving for accountability.

We’re not amused. Come on now!
