$4,000 Up For Grabs At #Shoko14

This year the Hub Un-conference at Shoko Festival will take things up a notch by launching the Hub Awards for pioneering initiatives in new media and technology in Zimbabwe on the 25th of September at Alex Sports Club.

The Hub Awards will take place at the main Shoko site and these awards will celebrate brand new, innovative new media projects to be presented at the opening of the Hub at Shoko Festival.Awards will be given the following day on the 26th September.

There will be four award categories going as follows:

  1. Award for the best online Public Accountability and Dialogue Platform,for creating dialogue between citizens and power (local authorities, local council, university authorities, central government and/or other)
  2. Award for the best Citizen Journalism Blog as a tool on social & political issues,
  3. Award for the best Community Action online/new media platform for information and action,
  4. Award for Women’s Rights Advocate using new media and technology.

The winners of these categories will receive cash prizes of US$1,000 each and will be mentored on their projects during and after the Un-conference over the period of a year to help them grow and become sustainable.

The Hub space will be an exciting, living experiment that invites all to come and learn, share and shape tomorrow. Speakers and facilitators from around Africa, Europe and further afield will discuss everything from how to ‘own’ social media as an organisation and use it to its full potential to how to gather steam online as a blogger or content creator.

All events will take place in the Environment Africa Dome on the Festival site 25th and 26th of September. Shoko Festival presents The Hub Awards in partnership with Wallace Global Fund and Zimbabwe Alliance.
