Zimplats Says Empowerment Plan “Does Not Work”

Zimplats, which is in discussions with the Zimbabwe government over its plans for indeginisation says the plan simply doesn’t work.

The Chief Executive for Impala Platinum, Zimplats parent company claimed that the equity plans were “very bad for the country” and had the potential “to retard investment”. He also said that his company was seeking to have the law changed.

His comments will not go down well with the Zimbabwe government which has repeatedly given the company leeway to come up with options to provide a satisfactory solution.

The comments are disappointing especially coming from so high up in the hierarchy of the company. Indigenisation is a reality in Zimbabwe. It is going to happen and they simply need to get with the programme.
