The South African Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s report on Nkandla spending has found that President Jacob Zuma and his family unduly benefited from the benefits they received.
She says that Zuma had misled parliament by claiming that his family had built their own houses and that no public money had been used. However she said the statement was not an violation of the executive order ethics.
R215 m has already been spent on the homestead. An additional 36 mill is expected to be spent bringing total to R246m.
She did say that Zuma gave the nod for all work done at his home. Madonsela said the procurement process was improper in violation of the prescribed Supply Chain Management. She said public service delivery was sacrificed for Nkandla. She found Zuma guilty of violating the executive code of ethics to protect state resources.
Madonselsa said that problems were experienced in getting information from the state.
Zuma will be asked to pay back ‘reasonable costs of upgrades’. Zuma must however report back to parliament with his response to the report in the next 14 days.
The ANC says it will respond at 16.30 on Wednesday.
That is transparency right there…
