Zim Cricketers Strike ‘Has Ended’

The Zimbabwe cricketers who have been on strike for close to two months will now be available for selection again after the country’s governing body paid them.

According to Elias Zvimba, the secretary-general of the players’s association,  who we spoke to on the phone,  the strike has ended and while he was unable to confirm with players whether their payments had come through they would be available for selection again for the national team and franchise leagues as the transactions had been done.

Zimbabwe’s preparations for the T20 World Cup had been thrown into disarray after the strike. The technical committee will now plead for an extension from the International Cricket Council for the announcement of the final squad as it has not had a chance to look at the players. The due date is 15 January 2014.

Earlier this week we interviewed a player who was upset by the long lay-off and the reasons behind it. You can listen to it here.
