Alick Macheso And Ammara Brown At Book Café On Thursday

On Thursday night, sungura legend ALICK MACHESO is set to make an electrifying debut performance at The Book Café at 8pm.

The celebrated bass player and his band ORCHESTRA MBERIKWAZVO will put on a sterling show as part of the October World Music Festival, bringing their brand of sungura to the Book Café for the first time. This not-to-be-missed show will be supported by dynamic rising stars AMMARA BROWN and KESSIA MASONA.

Singer, songwriter, guitarist, dancer and choreographer Alick Macheso has had a celebrated career. Since the release of his debut album “Magariro” in 1998, he has gone from strength to strength with hits like “Madhawu” and “Shedia” propelling him into superstardom. Macheso has been bringing thousands of Zimbabweans to their feet with his impressive bass guitar skills and energetic performance brimming with “Cheso-power!” This extraordinary musician has toured all over Zimbabwe and the region and has been enthusiastically received in the United Kingdom.

A Zimbabwean crowd favourite and considered to be a local music hero, Macheso performs at The Book Café for the first time and introduces ‘zora butter!’ to a new audience at the October World Music Festival. This performance will be supported by Ammara Brown and Kessia Masona.

Rising talent Ammara Brown burst onto the Harare music scene, captivating crowds with her unique vocal delivery and charismatic stage presence. In a short amount of time, she has carved out a niche in the Zimbabwe music scene, and is amassing a growing fan base. At HIFA 2013, she brought the house down as the opening act for South African superstars Mi Casa and earlier this year performed at the Sauti za Busara Festival in Zanzibar alongside fellow Zimbabwean band,Cde Fatso and Chabvondoka. She has collaborated with many local artists and is an exciting, new talent destined for stardom.

Zimbabwean firecracker Kessia Masona is making waves in afro-contemporary music. Kessia Masona is one of Zimbabwe’s most exciting new musical talents. She has been performing for over 11 years and her signature deep voice, and energetic stage style have earned her acclaim in Zimbabwe and abroad. Specializing in contemporary Afro-jazz with hints of reggae and rhumba, Masona has performed in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Zambia. Masona is passionate about music and performing and infuses her contemporary style of music with traditional elements and folk songs.
