Investigations into the ‘witches’ who claimed to have fallen out of the sky on the way from performing their dark arts turned out to be hired prostitutes.
Apparently, the self-proclaimed prophet who claims to have pulled them out of the sky hired them so that he could get people could revere him for his propensity to affect the supernatural.
In a country fascinated by the other world will a lot of traditions embedded in it, the scam if pulled off was going to be a huge cash cow.
The two ‘witches’ were two prostitutes from Chihota Communal Lands, not Gokwe and delivered performances fit for Academy Award nomination. Their names are not Chipo Chakanja and Maria Moyo, which they claimed on arrest. Chipo Chakanja is in fact Christine Matiyenga and Maria Moyo is Elnette Jinya.
Initially, it is claimed that there were six prostitutes approached to take part in the scam but four chickened out.
Nyaradzo Mubako who stayed with the two dismissed the notion that the two women were witches claiming that they were just ‘looking for money’. They had apparently spent the day at home getting their hair plaited by a Filda Munyama, Christine’s land lady. They were picked up at night by a blue Navara. That same car was seen at the home of the ‘prophet’.
We guess the scammers forgot an important component… the police. Without that, they could have pulled it off.
As for the ‘witches’, they talk about there being nothing wrong with being possessed. Word? They have been held in custody until 26 September.
S*%t just got real.
