Kenya is on a knife edge as it waits for a decision to uphold or invalidate Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidential victory.
This is after closing arguments on Friday in an appeal which focused on a report released by the court that found discrepancies in partial recounts from five of 22 polling stations. There were issues found in a further 75 constituencies.
Raila Odinga wants results from those areas cancelled.
While Kenya has generally been at peace there is a fear that if Odinga loses the appeal there could be unrest, especially if he does not accept the court’s decision.
This is a challenge to the newly-formed Supreme Court under the new constitution which the people seem to have a lot of faith in. This is seen as the reason why people have not yet gone to protest in the streets.
It’s riveting stuff, whatever happens.
