ZESA Tells People To Brace For Massive Powercuts

The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority has told Zimbabweans to expect massive power cuts with the expected high demand that comes with winter.

The cuts will affect both domestic and commercial customers.

Apparently electricity demand in winter will increase to an average 2 100 megawatts (MW) against the country’s power generation capacity of 1 226MW plus an extra import of 250MW.

This will impact wheat production because irrigation for the winter crop is done mostly by electricity. The authority will commit 960MW to wheat production though. Whether that is sufficient or not remains to be seen.

But it is triage. It is either we have no bread or we have cold baths, assuming your local authority gets water to your house.
