Hifa announces 2016 programme

The Harare International Festival of the Arts has announced its programme for the year 2016.

As you will know, HIFA as we know it is not will not take place this year. So there will be no six-day Festival. (yes we hear the boos).

Instead a series of events cutting across different genres will be held every month except October

These are:

  • April –  CABS Classical Music Celebrations
  • May – Theatre Season
  • June  –  Parkade Party + Music concert weekend
  • July –  Rugby Exhibition match + Classical Ballet Celebration
  • August –  Equestrian Exhibition with Art Auction and Wine Show
  • September – Formula One Racing Demonstration
  • November – Fashion, Hair and Beauty Show
  • December –  Anti-poaching and Environmental Conservation Conference.

What will be curious to see is the response of those who have held shows in times traditional to them. Essentially we have had fashion and hair shows around that time of the year. Mind you the pie is large and there is loads for everyone to have a go.

It’s different. And we hope we have a traditional HIFA next year. if they pull this off then maybe they can add these other activities to their six-day fiesta.
